For Patients
After your
procedure
Recovery is an important part of your treatment. We'll provide detailed aftercare instructions to help you heal properly.
Root Canal Treatment
After Root Canal Treatment
- 1
Rest and Recovery
Take it easy for the first 24 hours after your appointment and allow your body to focus on healing. Avoid strenuous activity during this time.
- 2
Medication Management
Take prescribed pain medication as directed to manage any discomfort after your appointment. Over-the-counter pain relievers can also help.
- 3
Avoid Chewing
Don't chew on the treated tooth until it receives a crown or filling restoration. Chewing could damage the tooth or cause other complications.
- 4
Temporary Filling Care
Your temporary filling protects the tooth until your permanent restoration is placed. Avoid sticky foods that could pull it out prematurely.
- 5
Follow-Up Appointment
Schedule your crown or filling appointment as soon as possible after your root canal. Your restored tooth will be stronger and protected.
- 6
Monitor Healing
Some sensitivity or mild discomfort is normal for a few days after treatment. If pain persists or worsens, contact us immediately.
Endodontic Surgery
After Endodontic Surgery (Apicoectomy)
- 1
Swelling Management
Apply ice to the outside of your face for 15-minute intervals in the first 24 hours. This reduces swelling and minimizes discomfort.
- 2
Pain Control
Take prescribed pain medication as directed and use over-the-counter pain relievers as needed. Most discomfort resolves within a few days.
- 3
Rest and Elevation
Keep your head elevated while sleeping to reduce swelling and promote healing. Avoid strenuous activity for at least one to two weeks.
- 4
Oral Hygiene
Gently rinse with salt water after meals starting the day after your surgery. Avoid brushing directly over the surgical site initially.
- 5
Suture Care
Keep the surgical area clean and dry to promote proper healing. Sutures typically dissolve on their own or are removed at your follow-up.
- 6
Activity Restrictions
Avoid heavy lifting, exercise, and strenuous activities for one to two weeks after surgery. Gradually return to normal activities slowly.
